Staying Fit in Menopause: The Importance of Physical Activity

It’s not a secret that exercise plays a significant role in your physical, emotional, and mental well-being. As part of her fitness routine, Bev regularly engages in outdoor activities like cycling, walking, hiking, and, more recently, strength training with a coach.

Bev has taken on an exciting new challenge: getting in shape for the upcoming 2025 Multi-Grind Challenge. For those unfamiliar with the event, it's a demanding annual competition that runs from dawn to dusk (4 a.m. to 10 p.m.) at Grouse Mountain on Vancouver’s North Shore. The event welcomes anyone fit enough to participate and serves as a fantastic fundraiser for a worthwhile cause, North Shore Rescue.

During a recent cycling trip to Squamish (a no-small-feat of 100 km) with her partner Oliver, Bev reflected on the benefits of cycling: improved cardiovascular fitness, increased muscle strength, and enhanced balance—all of which are integral to aging well!

As Bev begins her training for the Multi-Grind Challenge, here are her latest stats from a recent double ‘Grind’:

🌲 5 km of uphill challenge
👟 5,630 steps
🏔️ 1,600 meters of elevation
💦 2,000 calories burned!

Why is the Grind such a great workout? It improves cardiovascular fitness, strengthens the legs, enhances balance, and works wonders for mental health. It's clear that post-menopause, women can continue to pursue and achieve their fitness goals well beyond menopause.
