Getting Fitter & Stronger Post-Menopause: Why It’s Never Too Late to Set New Challenges
Menopause doesn’t mark an end—it’s a new beginning. As Bev described it in a recent IG post, Menopause - only defined retrospectively after 365 days with no period - really is a line in the sand, in terms of how women will live their lives from middle age onwards.
After menopause, women face an increased risk for heart disease, osteoporosis, and dementia. However, a healthy lifestyle can make a significant difference. Key components of wellness include:
🚲 Vigorous exercise (cardio & strength training)
🍉 A whole foods diet
💤 Deep, restorative sleep
🌸 Strong social connections
📚 Meaningful work
Together, these elements contribute to longevity and vitality. 💪 🌸
Last weekend, despite rainy Vancouver weather, Bev took on the Monster Dash 5K, finishing 8th overall and first in her age bracket. Now, she’s training for the MultiGrind Challenge at Grouse Mountain in summer 2025, with 15 races scheduled in the coming months. For Bev, menopause is a chance to reinvent herself and get fitter, faster, and stronger than ever.
Setting goals — whether it’s a 5K, a new fitness class, or a mountain hike — can inspire and empower women to set the bar even higher for their own personal happiness. With a commitment to self-care, women can look forward to decades of wellness and an amazing life. It’s never too late to set new goals in life, health, fitness, or beyond.
